Blackwood Jigsaw by Heureuse Blackwood Jigsaw by Heureuse
Blackwood canopy near the Hogarth Falls, Strahan.

If you've ever been on those little nature-trail-see-natural-beauty-such-as-these-waterfalls-walk<<don't-break-your-ankles>>type-thing, then you'll understand you're focused on your footing and the tannin-brown creek and the greenery and the flowers... much more than whatever the overcast sky is doing above you. But do look up. Especially when there are blackwoods. A most impressive silhouette...
To get more of an impression I suggest you MOVE YOUR FACE FAR AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER SCREEN. I was standing on the ground, you see. Blur your eyes a bit to see more of the jigsaw pattern.
Please enjoy this photo. Every Last Bit of it.
It still completely compels me.
I hope it has the same effect you...that you can get lost in it, drown in it.
Alright man, it's just a &#%$* picture of some trees, think what you will dudes!

Take the advice of ~Heureuse next time you go on a walk in the woods and resist the urge to spend the whole time being focused on your footing and the tannin-brown creek and the greenery and the flowers. Look up and may be lucky enough to see something like the "Blackwood Jigsaw" ( Suggested by pirate-soul and Featured by hesitation )

Very cool. The way the trees come together is really interesting, it really does look like some sort of weird design or maze.

Well done on getting a DD for this piece. This is no mean feat. Clearly all it takes just one great photo (says he green with envy). You have now eclipsed my page views by 3 times ! I'd better get off my arse and take some more photos. Bloody Tassie winter, just want to stay inside!

Yeah, I did get a hell of a lot of pageviews on the day this was featured! I really really wish I could get out and do stuff, but i can't. Missing out on rockclimbing and white water rafting too.
Goodluck on your trek of more photos, be careful not to freeze to death because you're right; it's a cold winter this year!

Thanks for doing this. It's lovely...

P.S. Maples are just as nice. I'm loving the almost fractal appearance of this picture.

I can imagine! Maple-lined avenues in autumn...that would be fantastic!
Here in tasmania select few people have maples growing in their yard which they've probably bought, instead we have these native canopies - which is by no means a downside!!

I see what you mean about having to move back to get the full effect of the picture.. I was sitting close to the screen and was like "so, so what?" But then I rolled back and I got it.. the is a stunning photograph.. but you're definitely right, you don't grasp that unless you're a ways from the computer.

Congrats on the DD... until I rolled a couple metres away.. I didn't think you deserved it... but this is excellent! :)

It took me a minute to actually see the trees. It looks like a bunch of rendered clouds and difference clouds done in photoshop. The texture of the tree against the sky is nice though.

That is... mind blowing. The trees look as if they've been smashed down to look flat. Does that make senses? I don't know. This is fucking awesome, though!

this reminds me of lace patterns and prints on fabric- the abstract quality makes me wonder what it is I'm seeing, a reflection or the sky? And the white spaces in between the silhouettes of the trees almost look like molten metal- beautiful. What an original take on the "simple" subject of trees/nature. You so deserved the DD. Thanks for the inspiration! :+favlove:
